Once upon a time paper was considered one of the primary mediums for artistic expression. Now many visual artists, writers and inventers use digital media to develop ideas, create moving images and define their artistic practice. But the physical touch, flexibility and fragile / strong nature of paper is still intriguing.
Ten diverse visual artists, who still use paper as either a jump of point or as their primary canvas, were invited to participate in the exhibition, Paper Works. Paper Works speaks to and explores a range of creative work by the following artists: Canadian artists Steve Mennie, Jen Dyck, Laura Hargrave and Rachael Ashe, the American book artist, Barbara Simler and the New York based artist, Jayne Holsinger as well as the Irish artist Carole Shubotham, the Berlin based artist, Astrid Menze and the Iranian artist who lives in the Netherlands, Samira Zamani.
